Hurricane Ike

Even though we are in East Texas we are being affected by the hurricane, and it hasn't even hit yet. It is sad to see all the evacuees traveling through the area. It really gets me thinking about what is important and what I would take. This morning I dropped the girls off at school. They were nervous as all the news reports are talking about the days weather and the weather over the weekend. We should just recieve bad wind and rain and then chances of tornadoes will increase as the weekend goes on. I just explained to do as the teachers said and realize that I would be there as soon as I could IF something happened. Then I went to our local Brookshires to get gas. They were already sold out the station was closed down. We only have one other gas station in town and it was packed with people. I decided to come home as it was more important for the travelers to get gas than me. I at least had my home. I have a hair appointment at ten. I was feeling weird about getting my hair done as many people were forced to leave their own homes. But Richard reassured me I can't allow what is happening to other people to affect my day. I can only pray for those and go on. So what would I take in my car if we had to evacuate. After we loaded in the car, I would load up the dogs and cat and then pictures. Whatever pictures I had around. This is not many as most of everything we own is in storage now. We have a storage unit in Longview, a storage unit here and also our garage is filled with boxes. But the truth of the matter is as long as I had my family, everything else would be insignifigant. Now don't get me wrong, it would be hard losing all that, but we can make more memories and pictures. As I start my day today, I am thankful for my home here in Bullard. I am thankful that my girls are at school today learning. I am thankful that Richard is at work and is very busy today as his hospital has had many transfer patients from the coast. I am thankful that my family is not in the direct area. I am praying for my brother in law and sister in law Ryan and Amanda, and Blake their son. They live outside of Houston and I pray for their safety. I am also praying for my cousin Jody and her husband Jim and also her son Justin is in from Indiana. I also pray that nothing happens to them. They also live in the Houston area.
